To improve your leadership skills and to be identified for your leadership qualities you need to understand what it is. Most importantly, you need to understand what it isn’t. It is not about being the best person within the group or the most competent at a particular skill set. It’s also not about being the most vocal and loudest person in the room always having the last word in a debate or argument. What it can be described as is a heightened awareness of the needs of the individuals within a group to get things done.

Leaders aren’t born. They’re made. In fact, truly effective leaders are forged in the fiery crucible of failure, experience, success and pain. Both physically and mentally. Through developing your character, that has a foundation of resilience, you can build your leadership qualities and skills which will have positive effects on the people around you and yourself. Resilience is key to this as it takes the bitter experience of failure to learn how to lead people.

You can work on and improve your leadership qualities in your day to day life by doing simple things that can essentially be described as leading by example. Within your own community or work place you can do this just by behaving in a manner that encourages others to replicate your behaviors. Being polite, chivalrous and generous are three simple traits of a good leader that can be utilized on a daily basis as a start.

Leading by example as a man within your community doesn’t have to be by achieving huge results or major achievements. It can be done by being a good citizen and applying some basic principles. The first is the concept of leading yourself. To do this your knowledge of your own self needs to be improved.
